Giant cell arteritis: It is the most common form of arteritis affecting cerebral blood vessels and is also known as temporal arteritis. It is characterized by high pain sensitivity of temporal and other scalp arteries. This condition generally affects only persons older than 60 years of age and must be diagnosed early in order to prevent blindness which often results from inflammation of ophthalmic arteries.
