Making New Year Resolutions Happen

Plan your resolutions so that by this time next year you’ll be feeling so much more satisfied! Here are a few tips.

1. Set Goal Plans
Setting a resolution without formulating a plan is merely wishful thinking. You’ll need to translate the resolution into clear steps that can be put into action. A good plan is to break the resolution into a sequence of bite-sized, do-able chunks and tackling them one at a time.

2. Do Tip 1 NOW!
Most people seem to loose their new years resolution motivation very quickly. Usually January starts with a flurry of activity that gradually peters out over the next few months. Use January’s motivation to set a plan that will help keep you on track for the whole year.

3. Write Down Your Resolution and Plan
Commit your resolution and plan to writing in a notebook or journal.

4. Remember Resolutions Take Time
Nothing big gets accomplished instantly. Sure the resolutions are set in one day, but are accomplished with a hundred tiny steps that happen throughout the year. Remember making the resolution is just the starting point. You must develop a ritual or habit for revisiting your plan.

5. Stay Flexible
Nothing in life is perfectly predictable so you may need to change your goal plan or sometimes the goal itself. Just remember to recognize each small success at every step along the way. Just as a resolution isn't accomplished the day it's stated, neither is it accomplished the day you reach your goal! True to the cliché’ it’s as much about the journey as reaching the destination!
